 VACANT POSITION:  Head of Supply Chain

Our client a leading FMCG in East Africa is looking to hire a Head of Supply Chain.

Reports to:    Managing Director

Direct reports:          Production Manager, Leaf Manager, Procurement Manager, Operations Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

To lead the development and implementation of supply chain strategies, capabilities and initiatives to support supply chain performance that meets the organization short and long term goals.

The role is responsible for sourcing or raw materials and overseeing all aspects of manufacturing and engineering to schedule, cost and quality commitments, for all product lines based on set business plans.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create savings within the entire organisation’s supply chain and aggressively pursue cost-saving opportunities with suppliers and other business partners
  • Lead senior management routines to monitor core supply chain performance, including delivering against product and service level agreements and cost objectives.
  • Oversee the procurement process to ensure that these are in line with the organization turnaround plans and processes and ensure that KPI’s on price, quality and time are achieved.
  • Review the usage and expenditure on large expenditure items with a view of identifying areas of cost reduction and/or service improvement
  • Co-ordinate and supervise the tendering process including participating in the evaluation of bids for goods and services.
  • Prepare & submit periodic summary of procurements executed, ongoing and deferred with appropriate explanations.
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective management of the inbound & outbound stores.
  • Ensure increased realization of products in quantities and quality that meets established customer, regulatory and statutory quality requirements so as to build and sustain customer satisfaction;
  • Ensure efficient utilization of available factory infrastructure & resources
  • Ensure adequate resource availability to ensure that production targets are met at the least cost
  • To optimize factory capacity utilization and efficiencies to meet the targets through the development and implementation of various improvement initiatives including Energy balance, TPM, Kaizen and related workplace enhancement initiatives
  • Engineer relevant factory optimisation initiatives to ensure continuous improvement is embedded in day to day factory operations activities
  • Work with the MD and the production Manager to optimize capital allocation, increase return on invested capital and reduce total costs of ownership of assets across the organisation
  • Oversee the preparation of the Department’s annual operating and capital budgets ensuring that the budget conforms to the overall business strategy and remaining accountable for its implementation;
  • Ensure compliance to all Company policies and procedures and to all applicable regulatory and legal requirements
  • Reduce in-process resource wastages i.e. electricity, leaf/tobacco and other materials through clearly laid down proactive measures
  • Establish a culture of first-time quality across the entire process of production
  • Embed safety culture in all activities at the factory and take overall responsibility for management of SHE at the factory.
  • Overall responsibility for development of leaders within the function and ensuring that proper succession plans are in place.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS;

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration – Supply Chain/Procurement or any other relevant field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering would be an added advantage.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain Management from a recognised institution.
  • Member of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management would be an added advantage.
  • Relevant training in Corporate Governance and Leadership.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience, five of which must be in a senior management position.
  • Extensive supply chain experience in a manufacturing entity.
  • Ability to create partnerships and strong relationships
